Put down the Allergex, we’re here to help share some ideas on how to better manage your allergies this summer.
- Remove dust collectors
Pollen and dust collects on items we don’t use that often in our homes. Ensure you don’t have unnecessary bits and bobs cluttering up open shelves. Items like carpets and rugs must be vacuumed regularly. Replace vertical blinds with roller blinds that make for an easier clean.
- Artificial ventilation
When the temperature rises, rather make use of air-conditioning with a HEPA filter instead of just opening your windows, inviting dust and pollen inside. Air purifiers can also help remove irritants from the air. When using air purifiers, be sure to avoid putting perfumes in the water as this could aggravate symptoms.
- Assess your garden
Take a look around your garden to determine if there are trees, flowers or shrubbery with heavily scented flowers or buds that could be adding to your woes. Shrubs like Jasmine and Yesterday Today and Tomorrows are notorious culprits.
- Clean regularly
Dust collects easily, especially in summer when the wind blows heavily to bring thunder clouds. If the dust that’s blown into your home is not cleaned and household items are not wiped down, it can wreak havoc on your sinuses. Be sure to keep a tidy home and deep clean your home at least once a week.
