Becoming more eco conscious is nothing new and has been growing in popularity in recent years in an attempt to save the Earth. With South Africa’s power giant also taking strain to create enough electricity for the country, it might be wise to consider going greener. Today, we’re sharing a few ways how you can make your home greener without breaking the bank.
- Ceiling insulation
Lower your electricity bill by as much as 40% by installing proper ceiling insulation. Install insulation with the right R-value for your climate zone. R-value is how effectiveness of insulation is measure – the higher the value, the greater the effectiveness.
- Window frames
Replace old and worn window frames to provide better insulation. This will lower your reliance on cooling or heating appliances, depending on the season.
- Tap, tap, tap
Replace old faucets with newer, flow-restricting fixtures. Low-water fixtures will also help lower your monthly water bill. Investing in a dual-flush toilet mechanism will cut down water consumption.
- Energy-efficient appliances
It’s unnecessary to replace all your appliances that are still working at once, but over time as they break or become worn out, replace them with newer, more energy-efficient ones. The environment and your bank account will thank you.
